Farmer John And His New Rain Barrel

A few days ago, while out walking the dogs, I passed by old farmer John's house. He was standing in front of his barn, looking at a large rain barrel. When he saw me on the path, he greeted me warmly:

“Heading to the woods again today?”

“Just like every day,” I replied.

“How do you like my rain barrel?” he asked. 

I walked over to him and looked at the rain barrel: “Is that new?”

He nodded, beaming with joy: “With all this rain, you need a big rain barrel.”

“You’re probably right,” I agreed.

He grinned: It’s the biggest rain barrel in the entire neighborhood. You have never seen a bigger rain barrel than this. Just look at the size. It's tremendous. It really is. You see the color? It’s a special green. This is the only green color you have ever seen on a rain barrel. It’s an incredible green color. It really is. No one else has a rain barrel in this special green color. It's amazing. This rain barrel holds 1,000 liters. Have you ever heard of a rain barrel that can hold 1,000 liters? I bet you haven't. It's incredible, but this rain barrel can really hold 1,000 liters. It's tremendous; it really is. You can try to get a rain barrel this size. You will not find one. Because a rain barrel this size is the only rain barrel in the entire country. It is the absolute biggest rain barrel. It's tremendous. It really is. Can you imagine what that means? I can water the entire vegetable patch with it. And it’s the largest vegetable garden in this area. You have never seen a larger vegetable garden in this area. It‘s unbelievable. You want so see my new tractor? It’s great. You have never seen a tractor that great. It’s incredible. It‘s the greatest tractor you have ever seen. And it is huge. It really is. And you should see…....

I interrupted Farmer John friendly and pointed to the clouds behind the forest. “I believe you, John, but now I have to hurry  so I can make it home in time. The first rain clouds are already gathering over there.”

“And it looks like it’s going to be a tremendous lot of rain. Probably the heaviest rainfall in the summer month you have ever seen before. It's probably going to be an absolutely incredible rainfall.”

“I hope not. Anyway, have a nice evening, John.” I said goodbye and waved to him one last time from the path. He waved back at me and then went back to his rain barrel. The biggest rain barrel in the entire neighborhood.
